The blue of our oceans, rivers, and lakes: This itinerary includes the release of sea turtle hatchlings, a boat tour through a mangrove estuary, an experience at a rural school, a surfing lesson, and beautiful beachfront hotels.
DAY 1: EASTERN EL SALVADOR
Today, we will head to the eastern part of El Salvador, which offers beautiful beaches and authentic experiences. We will enjoy a boat tour through the Gulf of Fonseca, observing the daily life of local fishermen. Afterwards, we'll stop at one of the islands for a swim and a picnic lunch. Overnight in a beachfront boutique hotel in eastern El Salvador.
DAY 2: PLAYA EL ICACAL - SEA TURTLES - RURAL SCHOOL
El Icacal is one of the best beaches in El Salvador. Four species of sea turtles nest on this beach, and the area also features a beautiful estuary. Today, we will learn about sea turtle conservation efforts at a nursery. The manager will explain the management of the nursery, and then we will have the opportunity to release newly hatched turtles into the Pacific Ocean. After this activity, we will visit a local school sponsored by our nonprofit organization, Share Smiles, which supports communities in areas with tourism potential. Overnight in eastern El Salvador.
DAY 3: BAHÍA DE JIQUILISCO
After checking out of the hotel, our next stop is Bahía de Jiquilisco, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. This area serves as a transit point for at least 87 species of migratory birds and features a variety of mangroves. First, we will hike through the forest to observe the local wildlife, including a community of spider monkeys. We will then visit a cocoa plantation to learn about chocolate production. El Salvador produces Criollo cocoa, which is considered one of the highest quality in the world. In the afternoon, we will take a boat tour through the bay and enjoy the sunset. DAY 4: SURF EXPERIENCE - PLAYAS DE LA LIBERTAD
After checking out, we will head to the central coast beaches of El Salvador. El Salvador ranks in the top 10 globally for the best surfing spots, and some of the best waves are found in this area. This is a great opportunity to take a surfing lesson with a local expert. We will then continue to the Port of La Libertad, where we will witness the daily fresh catch of local fishermen.
